Given that usage, Open NAT is irrelevant.
If you must manually forward, then you only need to forward 3074/udp and live with the fact that you can only have a single Xbox device on your network with Open NAT at any given time.Ģ I have three different 360s on my network because two are mainly used as TV extenders for Windows Media Center. The one thing you never should do is follow the official port forwarding guides that have you forwarding stupid ports like 53/tcp (DNS) and 80/tcp (HTTP). If you have multiple Xboxes (including if you have a single 360 and a single XBOne), you really want to run UPnP. With no UPnP internet gateway daemon (IGD) running on your network, all Xboxes will only look for 3074/udp and report moderate or strict NAT and will make no other attempt to fix themselves.
They will only work if the 360 requests them via UPnP. And then of course I have to go back to the 360 whose port I removed and either reboot it or force a network test there as well in order to get it back into an Open NAT state.ġ Knowing and attempting to manually map these fallback ports will do you no good. If one of the 360s starts up first, then I have to manually drop the port request 3 and then force the XBOne to try again by forcing a network test. If the XBOne is the first Xbox device I fire up when my network is in a fresh state (no ports forwarded via UPnP requests yet), it will always get 3074/udp and life is good. Either the XBOne isn't doing a fallback (which would be very bad), or it's not interpreting the port forward response correctly, or my UPnP server (miniupnp) is not sending a response that XBOne interprets as invalid. So far, I've been unable to get the XBOne to fall back if one of the 360s took 3074/udp first. For example, two 360s on my network 2 have currently requested 26456/udp and 30087/udp, and report Open NAT. But if it can't get 3074/udp, the 360 will fallback 1 to several other ports. Normally, the first Xbox (360, One, or the Original back when Live still worked for it) on a network will request 3074/udp and get it, and all will be well. I've found that the XBOne seems to have a less robust UPnP implementation than the 360. The video didn't explain it, but if his router was setup to allow UPnP, doing these steps (and not even necessarily this, but just the network connection test) will cause the XBOne to request the port to be forwarded by the router.
